How far in advance did you book? Over a year
Why did you get married abroad?
For one, it will never be as big as a local wedding so having a smaller more private wedding makes it more intimate and special. You know your loved ones will be there and every moment will count. You won’t spend all day greeting guests you’ve never met. It truly felt like a big family party with great food, music and dancing.
We chose to get married in Croatia because of our Mediterranean roots. I was born in Bulgaria and Steve’s family is from Croatia as well. The Excelsior Hotel looked so perfect, it was an easy decision to make.
The dress was from Grace Loves Lace and it took me one minute to decide on it because I had it saved for years!!
We chose a blush tone to match the rose gold theme and we bought them from Brideside here in Chicago.
We chose lilies and roses because lilies are my favorite flower and I wanted to match our “rose” gold theme.
Colours and theme
The theme was bit of a boho chic vibe, on the water, casual, but elegant. Rose gold colors were incorporated to add a dash of color. I chose this because my engagement ring and band are both rose gold material and blush tones have always been a favorite of mine. For our wedding favors we had little mason jar shot glasses to tie into our boho chic theme.
Our wedding cake wasn’t traditional because we aren’t traditional, so we had a macaron tower cake! Those are my favorite and so we wanted an entire cake of it.
Happily Ever After
Your favourite memory
There were a few, our first dance, my father daughter dance and then the speech my brother gave.
Start early but don’t have too long of an engagement because it makes waiting really hard! Keep it small, and try not to stress about the little details because on the actual day it all comes together. Choose a destination you haven’t been to because it makes it so much more exciting to share a new experience with loved ones.
