Mónico’s history was born out of a dream. A dream that came to light in 1940 in New York, when Carlos Albert, son of the Marquis of Alhucemas, became fascinated by the legendary restaurant “Del Monicos”, one of the first luxury restaurants in the United States. Months later that dream became reality with the opening of Mónico, a beautiful tea room in the heart of Madrid. A small family business. And one of the most highly frequented places by the Madrid bourgeoisie after the war.
Later on, in 1963, the sons of its founder decided to expand the business by opening the Mónico stores, which were characterized by their elaboration of products using 100% natural ingredients and their at-home delivery service. And in 1966 they opened La Casa Mónico, one of the first events and catering estates in Madrid, which very soon began to host the most important weddings in the Autonomous Community.
The Cortijo (or farmhouse) de Mónico, in the north-west area of Madrid, joined in years later to broaden the catering group’s services while still maintaining the same level of care and exclusivity.
Earlier this year we inaugurated our new estate. Located in a one-of-a-kind environment surrounded by a beautiful pistachio field and only half an hour away from Madrid, it has a large capacity for holding weddings and hosting corporate events.
